Holiday region

Brandberg, also known as the "sunny village", is a tiny but marvellous holiday village situated on the south-facing hillside of the "Zillergrund" (Zillergrund, a side valley of the back end of the Zillertal that detours from Mayrhofen and is traversed by the river Ziller). The municipal territory occupies almost the entire Zillergrund and extends to the border with South Tyrol (Italy). Due to the south-exposed position the village is sun-drenched the entire day. A close situated mountain is called "Brandberger Kolm".

Main sources of income are agriculture and tourism, whereas Brandberg, compared to Mayrhofen, promotes sustainable tourism. In addition, the production of electrical energy (reservoir Zillergründl with powerhouse) plays a role. In the side valleys of the Zillergründl mainly seasonal transhumance is done.

For nature lovers is provided, ranging from easy trails to extreme mountain tours - the very thing for everybody. Around Brandberg are about 85 km of hiking trails at your disposal. There are also two alpine huts, the Kolmhaus (1845 m) and the Plauener hut (2373 m) within the municipal territory.

On the edge of the natural preserve (Naturpark), at 1850 m above sea level, an interesting combination of nature and technology awaits the visitors: the reservoir Zillergründl, embedded in mostly unspoiled countryside.

In just a few minutes you reach the bustling ski resort Mayrhofen with all its well-known ski areas. Whether for skiing or snowboarding, it offers unlimited winter fun on hundreds of kilometres of slopes.

From Mayrhofen two routes lead to Brandberg. One is known as the gorge trail, the second and more modern one leads through the Brandberg-tunnel - > tunnel of Hollenzen (district Mayrhofen) towards Zillergrund and then on to Brandberg.
